Much of this is down to (the great) Richard Attenborough who looks and acts the part as Santa Claus, a role he was born to play. Mara Wilson is cute and endearing as Susan Walker, the precocious girl, wiser than her years. A memorable scene sees Susan pulling at Santa's real beard and exclaiming surprise!
The final resolution isn't as good as in the original but it's not bad. Elizabeth Perkins and Dylan McDermott are the 'impossibly' good looking grown-ups falling in love. NYC at Christmas time looks magnificent and the scene with the deaf girl is heartwarming.
