In this sequel to Netflix's 2018 hit, 13-year-old, Kate Pierce (Darby Camp) is unhappy about spending Christmas in Cancún, Mexico, with her mum, Claire, her older brother, Teddy (Judah Lewis returning briefly), and her mum's new partner, Bob (Tyrese Gibson.)
Kate is dragged through a porthole (with Bob's son Jack, Jahzir Bruno) and ends up at the North Pole. Belsnickel (Julian Dennison), an envious former Elf (now human) opened the porthole, seeking revenge against Santa (a returning Kurt Russell) and Mrs. Claus (Russell's real life wife / actor Goldie Hawn) for banishing him.
Belsnickel intends to destroy the North Pole's Christmas star ruining Christmas for everyone. It's well directed by Home Alone's Chris Columbus. The special effects are terrific (see: the sleigh in flight scenes) and the plot is engaging (with CGI Elf's and Candy Canes aplenty), but it's not (quite) as good as the original.
