Surviving Christmas (2004)

Good looking, rich, advertising executive, Drew (Ben Affleck) is alone for Christmas (yeah right!), and so he visits his old childhood home and hires the current occupants to be his fake family over the holidays (yeah right!) He gives them an initial $100,000 and then keeps adding more money into the pot to get them to play along (yeah right!)

SC has a truly terrible screenplay with awful dialogue (see: the squeaky stair) and preposterous contrivance. [See the smutty website posting.]

Affleck is overacting constantly and everyone else looks like they'd rather be elsewhere. Tom (James Gandolfini) sure cares a lot about salami to say he's being paid $100,000!

A romantic subplot with Christina Applegate as Alicia offers ill-advised suggestions of incest (she's his fake sister, ho ho ho.) Catherine O'Hara co-stars as Christine (Tom's wife.)

If you survived this Christmas film give yourself a pat on the back. Everyone was put on the naughty list for crimes against cinema.
