Monkey Man is an uber-stylish revenge flick directed by and starring Dev Patel (who also helped write the screenplay.)
Patel stars as Kid, an underground fighter at the fight club Tiger's Temple, who hides his identity behind a monkey mask. Kid is determined to exact revenge on Rana (Sikandar Kher) who earlier killed his mother during a village massacre. Kid infiltrates King's, a luxury brothel and cocaine den (where Rana frequents) by posing as a kitchen worker.
Owing a great debt to John Wick (2014, which it mentions) Monkey Man features furious, action packed, brutal fights that are frequently bloody. The fights are well chorographed with great energy.
Flashbacks feature throughout which reveal the motivation behind Kid's revenge. This is all about the action and in that regard the film (more than) delivers. The story is slight and over-familiar, but moderately entertaining.
