Wild man Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson) and family man, Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover) are as mismatched as they come. Recently widowed Riggs has a death wish, he walks towards a sniper and tastes drugs to bust a drugs ring. And who can forget the suicidal man! “Do you really wanna jump? Do you?” He's a lonely man. On the flip side Murtaugh is too old for this shit (yes, even in the first one!) He's just celebrated his 50th birthday with his family.
Lethal Weapon has much needed heart to go along with the explosive set-pieces / action. We root for them to survive.
The (slightly underwritten) bad guys kidnap Murtaugh's teenage daughter Rianne (Traci Wolfe) and it's up to Riggs and Murtaugh to get her back.
The gun posing throughout feels dated but the end fight between Mr. Joshua (a very good Gary Busey) and Riggs is a classic of the genre.
The second best action film of the 80's. [After Die Hard.]
