This animated short film features Mickey Mouse (Wayne Allwine) as Bob Cratchit and Scrooge McDuck as Ebenezer Scrooge. Many beloved Disney characters appear (from films and television.)
This was the first original theatrical Mickey Mouse cartoon in 30 years, airing alongside The Rescuers (1977.) This was the last time Clarence Nash voiced Donald Duck.
The animation is classic Disney and the storyline is entertaining despite being overfamiliar. The dialogue is often hilarious: Daisy Duck, “I'm standing under the mistletoe.” Scrooge, “you're also standing on my foot!”
The cartoon could have benefited from an extra ten minutes, as it feels a little truncated in the middle. Scrooge’s change of heart happens too fast to be truly believable, but the ending is as enjoyable as ever. Particularly the sack of toys scene. Even if you've overdosed on the Scrooge story, it will leave you feeling suitably Christmassy.
