Drive (2011)

An unnamed driver (Ryan Gosling) helps a young mother (Carey Mulligan) in need, after her husband (Oscar Isaac) gets out of prison.

Drive has style to spare, with well chosen music and superior shots and editing. Gosling is great as the unnamed driver (his character is verging on iconic), but his character can be quite annoying, as he mumbles and hardly says anything. He's supposed to be the silent but deadly type!

The acting is good throughout and the bad guys (Albert Brooks and Ron Perlman) have real purpose and motivation, we understand what they're doing and why they're doing it. They feel like real people. There is some strong, unexpected violence throughout.

Unfortunately, the far fetched ending threatens to ruin the entire film.

Would the driver really do what he does?

Bryan Cranston (TV's Breaking Bad) co-stars as car dealer Shannon.

Good but sadly not great (the ending needed a re-write.)
