Walter Meyers (a very good Danny Glover) is a retired automotive engineer who sadly lost his wife, Grace (Rachel Kylian) one year earlier. He invites his four grown children and the rest of the family to his house for a traditional Christmas celebration (hoping they can finally stop bickering, which will be a Christmas miracle.)
AC is watchable festive entertainment with believable characters but it doesn't linger long in the memory once the end credits roll. There's a lot going on here (with several soap opera storylines crammed in, including a love story and an affair) but none of it makes much of an impact.
Gabrielle Union is the best thing about the film as Rachel Meyers, Walter's youngest daughter who is struggling to financially support herself and her daughter Niya due to her recent divorce. Jessie T. Usher, Romany Malco and Kimberly Elise are Walter's other children. Mo'Nique is good value as Aunt May, with most of the funny lines.
