The Snowman and the Snowdog (2012)

A sequel to the Christmas classic The Snowman (1982) this is far better than it had a right to be (after thirty years.)

The story: a young boy and his mother move into a new house (which previously housed the first film's protagonist James and his parents.) The boy Billy finds the original scarf, hat, coal lumps and an old dried-up tangerine under a loose floorboard. This inspires him to build a snowman and a snowdog. That night they magically come to life!

Using hand drawn animation (like in the original) this short animated film is beautiful to look at and appropriately festive. It's more or less a beat by beat copy of the original (with visit to Santa included) but there are new elements, children will love the adorable snowdog and adults will enjoy the Christmas nostalgia.

The song 'Light the Night' by Razorlight drummer Andy Burrows really grows on you over time. Excellent.
