The Muppet Movie (1979)

Kermit leaves his swamp behind and goes to Hollywood to become a star, in this inaugural Muppet movie.

The Muppet Movie (1979) is often remembered for two things - the opening Oscar nominated The Rainbow Connection (sung by a banjo strumming Kermit) and the incredible puppetry by creator Jim Henson and team. At one point Kermit rides a bike, look ma no strings!

The first scene sees the Muppets breaking the fourth wall in the only way they can, as they settle down to watch their own movie!

The film is a little dated when compared to The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992) and The Muppets (2011) but there's still enough here (e.g. clever slapstick and fun musical numbers) to keep Muppet fans entertained.

Miss Piggy, Ralph and the Great Gonzo feature, with celebrity cameos (inc: Dom DeLuise, James Coburn, Steve Martin, Mel Brooks and even Orson Welles as a big time Hollywood producer.)
