It's father vs. stepfather in Director Sean Anders entertaining buddy comedy.
Daddy's Home stars Mark Wahlberg as biological macho, motorcycle riding Dusty and Will Ferrell as radio executive, sensitive Brad. Wahlberg and Ferrell have great comedic chemistry together and their constant one-upmanship is a lot of fun. But occasionally the comedic set-pieces become too far-fetched and silly.
Thomas Haden Church is memorable as Leo Holt, Brad's easily changeable boss at the radio station, while Linda Cardellini (TV's Bloodline) is credible as Sara Whitaker, Brad's current wife and Dusty's ex wife. Scarlett Estevez as Megan Mayron and Owen Vaccaro as Dylan Mayron are good value as the children.
Comedian Bill Burr is Jerry and Hannibal Buress is (invited) squatter (yes!) Griff. The ending is clever, there's always someone bigger than you! Partially set at Christmas.
Followed by a sequel in 2017.
