Disney's A Christmas Carol uses motion capture animation, which means the animated characters really resemble their actor selves (but with some changes, Jim Carrey is made to look older.)
The characters have an unnatural way of moving, due to the technique not being completely perfected. Still, the animation that surrounds them is absolutely jaw-dropping! Taking on a 3D effect even in 2D.
Carrey does an great job of bringing Ebenezer Scrooge to life, while also playing all three ghosts! Gary Oldman takes on three voice roles: Bob Cratchit, Jacob Marley and Tiny Tim (he's excellent too.)
Somewhat (unfairly) looked down upon, on release, this sparkling animation has imagination to spare, with subtle changes to the text which take advantage of the 'anything goes' nature of animation. See: Scrooge being shrunken down and chased through the streets by a nightmarish coachman!
Some of the intense imagery might be too scary for children (it is a PG certificate.)
Not as good as some live-action adaptations but it's still fun, with stunning animation.
