A Christmas Carol (2004)

This musical adaptation of A Christmas Carol is based on a 1994 stage musical of the same name. Kelsey Grammar (TV's genius Frasier) is quite good as Scrooge, but sadly he's not great. His choice of posture is a little off-putting (legs apart, hunched over) and his clothes are too big! His performance varies wildly from commanding to hammy, despite this, there's something likable about this adaptation.

The special effects are quite good for a television film. See: the scene where the ghosts enter Ebenezer's room, one by one, as Marley invites them in.

The songs aren't as good as the ones in the Albert Finney version (1970) but they're fine.

Both Jennifer Love Hewitt (as Emily) and Steven Miller (as young Ebenezer) are very good in their limited roles. Scrooge meets the ghosts in the village beforehand and the GOCPast is a sexy woman! There are other changes too which make this version interesting. Worth a look.
